A superhero goodbye

our Morden team arranged the perfect themed send-off

Did you know that almost half of our funeral home colleagues have arranged a funeral which has been themed to celebrate a person’s life, with fancy dress and football shirts up there as the most popular?

Last week our Morden funeral home were tasked with arranging a one of a kind superhero themed funeral for an 18 year-old boy.

Devastatingly Arthur Lewis Trigger Peebles, had decided to take his own life. But in the midst of the tragedy, his mum Jacqueline was determined to do two things.

Firstly she wanted to make sure his funeral was a celebration of all the things that he’d loved – comic books, Superman, Iron Giant, Spiderman and Woody and Buzz from Toy Story.

She asked mourners to embrace their inner superhero dressed as the characters he loved, while she dressed as Hulk, our Funeral Director Cindi Gordon led the funeral dressed as She-Ra from the He-Man comic books, and four other members of our team escorted the procession dressed as Superman, Batman, Robin and Captain America.

Secondly she wanted to raise awareness of mental health issues in young people – a condition that her son suffered with.

Arthur’s mental health issues resulted in the most catastrophic ending and her aim is to tackle this head on, and stop such heartbreak happening with others.

Dressed as She Hulk (that’s who Arthur referred to her as when she was cross) she was keen to speak out to the world about the situation and told us:

“My son was a wonderful boy, a pure soul with so much ahead of him. We’re completely devastated that he’s gone, but were adamant that his funeral was a true celebration of his life.

We dressed as the characters he loved and played the last ten minutes of his favourite film, Iron Giant during the service in his memory.

Like many children, Arthur was a victim to bullying from a young age. He suffered from mental health problems which resulted in him tragically taking his own life.

We want his funeral to raise awareness of mental health issues to ensure that young people like Arthur get access to the support they need. That is why we’ve set up Arthur’s Law.

He was my superhero and now I’m going to drive this forwards and be his.”

We think you’re extremely brave to speak out at such a difficult time Jacqueline, and feel privileged to have helped you celebrate your beautiful son’s life.
